Account Lockouts - Common Causes
Here are some common things that could be locking out your Active Directory account. Please consider if any of the following apply:
1. The following services all use the same Active Directory login and password, changing one of them changes all of them. Users will sometimes change their password without realizing the link and attempt to log into one of the other services using the old credentials:
- RC Willey customer cash or credit account
- RC Willey website
- RC Willey HR Portal
- Boxworks
- Scan guns
- PC Login
- Office 365 (web and local apps)
- Microsoft Teams
- Microsoft Edge
- Cisco VPN
- Cisco Jabber
- Cisco desk phone (sometimes when working from home)
2. Users sometimes enter their username and press <Enter>, then their password and press <Enter> again. If either is incorrect, that sends multiple bad password attempts. The Enter key should not be used to move between fields except in the Willey system.
3. When the Active Directory password is reset or changed (ie: on the HR portal), the user needs to sign out of ALL of the above-listed services BOTH on the computer(s) they use and their phone, then sign back in again to update the cached password. Otherwise, these computers/apps will lock the account when it tries to verify the login using the old password.
